Google: Product Narrative

Google Creative Lab asked six teams at the VCU Brandcenter to make the holidays better for users using their products. We created Switch, and won the pitch.

Google is the authority when it comes to people connecting through technology. What if Google also became the authority on people connecting without it?

Introducing Google Switch. A new product that encourages you to spend more time with your loved ones.

Switch is simple. Type in the special occasion that prompted you to use Switch. Select the period of time for which you’d like to use it. And set time and/or frequency limits for your usage of each Google product. Then, flip the Switch to activate it.

Leading up to and during your Switch period, messaging in your Google products will let everyone know what you’re doing so they respect your time and maybe flip the Switch too.

So, what happens during your set Switch period? If you reach your usage limit for a Google product, it’ll shut down. If you try to open it again, a message will remind you to get back to spending time with your loved ones.

If you find yourself playing a staring contest, Switch has got you covered. By not limiting certain Google products like Maps and Schemer, Switch makes it easy to explore and try new things with your loved ones.
